Election Information

The next regular Municipal General Election will take place on October 18, 2021. The Village of Innisfree will also be responsible for a senate election.

Nominations for the Municipal General Election are now open and will close at 12:00 P.M. (NOON) on September 20, 2021.

Notice is hereby given that Nomination Day is September 20, 2021 and that nominations for the election of candidates for the following offices will be received at the location of the local jurisdiction office set out below within the period beginning on January 1, 2021 and ending at 12:00 NOON on Nomination Day.

Notice to File Nomination Papers

A person may file a nomination to become a candidate for the 2021 municipal election which is to be held on October 18, 2021, within the period beginning January 1, 2021, ending at 12 noon on nomination day, September 20, 2021. 

Nominations for the election of candidates in the Village of Innisfree will be received at the Village of Innisfree Administration office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday excluding statutory holidays.  

Candidates must have their nomination papers filed by 12:00 noon on nomination day, September 20, 2021, four (4) weeks prior to Election Day.

The list of Village of Innisfree candidates who have filed their nomination papers to run in the 2021 municipal election can be viewed below. A final official list of candidates will be available after nomination day, September 20, 2021.

A person may request to examine the filed nomination papers during regular business hours and in the presence of the returning officer.

2021 Senate Election Proclamation

Local Jurisdiction: Village of Innisfree, Alberta 

A) For the purpose of electing   3   person(s) according to the Alberta Senate Election Act, whose name(s) is(are) to be submitted by the Government of Alberta to the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada as a person(s) who may be summoned to the Senate of Canada for the purpose of filling a vacancy(-ies) relating to Alberta, and 

B) For the purpose of holding a vote on the following referendum question(s) under the Referendum Act, 

Should section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 - Parliament and the government of Canada's commitment to the principle of making equalization payments - be removed from the constitution?

Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

Public Notice is hereby given to the electors that the following are fixed pursuant to the Alberta Senate Election Act and Alberta Referendum Act:

Nomination of Candidates:

COMMENCING immediately and continuing until 2:00 P.M. on September 20, 2021 excluding Sunday's and holidays, nomination papers may be filed with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer during normal business hours at 100, 11510 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, AB T5G 2Y5, for a candidate under the Alberta Senate Election Act.

Election Day:

Voting will take place on October 18, 2021 between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. unless an elected authority has passed a bylaw to open voting stations before 10:00 A.M..

Announcement of Official Results by Chief Electoral Officer:

The announcement of the tabulation of the official results will take place at the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer at 100, 11510 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, AB T5G 2Y5, on October 26, 2021 at 11:00 A.M..

Voter Eligibility

According to Section 47 of the Local Authorities Election Act, a person is eligible to vote in an election held pursuant to this Act if the person:

  • is at least 18 years old;
  • is a Canadian citizen;
  • has resided in Alberta for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding election day and the person's place of residence is located in the area on election day.
